Comfort Systems USA reported third-quarter earnings of $13.91 a share on a GAAP basis, meaning under the standard US accounting rules. That was $0.91 a share above what analysts expected. Revenue came in at $3.77 billion, against $3.44 billion expected. The results were released after the market closed on Thursday.
Chief executive Brian Lane put the quarter's results down to strong ongoing demand. He said the company expects to grow organically, meaning from its existing business, and to keep high profitability and cash flow through 2027. Zacks, in a preview published on Yahoo Finance before the report, put the company's backlog of contracted work at a record $14.06 billion at the end of June.
The board declared a quarterly dividend of $1.00 a share, up from $0.90. It is payable on November 23, 2026, to shareholders of record on November 12, 2026.
Bill George is set to retire as chief financial officer after the company's 2026 annual report, and Julie Shaeff is set to succeed him. The company's 2022 earnings release named Shaeff as chief accounting officer. A higher payout suggests the board sees current demand and cash flow as durable enough to commit to more cash for shareholders, even as the handover nears. Management's guidance runs through 2027, well past the date of the change. That suggests continuity of strategy matters more to the outlook than the change of person.
