US natural gas storage rose by 77 billion cubic feet (Bcf) this week, below the 79 Bcf that had been expected.
The build is up from 67 Bcf last week. That earlier figure, reported on October 15, missed both the consensus forecast and the five-year average, amid the West Virginia pipeline leak.
A near miss on expectations, paired with a sharp rise from last week, suggests the supply tightness seen after the pipeline disruption may be easing rather than lasting. That cuts against the narrowing margin in storage that has built up since mid-October.
