A senior Ukrainian official says a ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky will be established soon.
Ukraine's negotiator raised Oleshky with the US side on October 21. That suggests the topic has moved from discussion to an announced outcome.
A localized ceasefire there would be the first concrete step tied to a specific place, rather than another statement about process. Earlier announcements on diesel, frozen assets and scheduling trilateral talks have not moved Moscow's Donbas precondition. Truces announced this month have collapsed when strikes continued, including missile attacks on Kyiv reported the same week. Whether this ceasefire holds would matter more than the announcement itself.
CBS reported on October 21 that Russia, Ukraine and the US had agreed to technical-level talks. A US official said Russia had accepted the US proposal for a trilateral meeting with Ukraine. Technical negotiations could be held in Abu Dhabi in mid-November.
