BNY said Thursday its adjusted earnings per share for the third quarter was $2.37, excluding notable items, with revenue of $5.68 billion.
Ahead of the report, analysts tracked by Zacks had expected adjusted earnings of $2.26 a share, which would have marked an 18.3% rise from the year-ago quarter, and revenue of $5.60 billion. BNY reported revenue of $4.976 billion in the third quarter of 2025, according to a Hudson Labs earnings preview, the base used for this year's comparison.
The bank runs its business through three segments: Securities Services, Market and Wealth Services, and Investment and Wealth Management, according to a BNY prospectus filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Earlier this week, Citigroup beat its own profit estimate on its best third-quarter trading revenue in a decade, even as its revenue of $23.84 billion fell short of the $24.20 billion analysts had forecast.
If BNY's figures hold up against estimates on both lines, that would point to continued strength in fee-based revenue tied to assets under custody and administration, a business that has benefited as markets have stayed elevated through the year. A revenue line that clears forecasts by a wide margin, not just the bottom line, would suggest the quarter's strength came from core servicing and investment management fees rather than one-time items or cost cuts alone, a distinction investors have been drawing between trust and custody banks exposed to markets and asset levels and lenders more exposed to credit and deposit costs.
