The Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted a drone over Riyadh
The Gulf premium on Saudi crude has fallen from $34 to about $6 a barrel even after strikes reached the capital's airport and an Aramco hub.

The Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted a drone over Riyadh, the latest attack on a capital that the oil market has so far chosen to look through.
The strikes are no longer new. The first explosion inside Riyadh came on October 8, a break from weeks of attacks confined to Jazan and Najran provinces, and shrapnel from an intercepted Houthi rocket hit a medical complex the same day. Houthi attacks have since widened to King Khalid International Airport and Aramco's Dhahran headquarters, flights have been suspended, and the airport extended its closure after confirmed damage. On October 22 the coalition said it had intercepted four drones over Riyadh and Medina, without saying where they came from or what they were aimed at. A fire broke out at the Ras Tanura oil hub after a Houthi-claimed attack on October 27.
Yet the physical flow of oil has barely moved. October Saudi shipping volumes nearly matched September, and the Gulf premium fell from $34 to about $6 a barrel. The East-West pipeline, which resumed exports after repairs in late September, has helped. The tape is saying that without confirmed damage to export or refining capacity, an intercept over Riyadh adds nothing to the risk already priced in.
The politics are less settled than the price. The Houthis say all mediation with Saudi Arabia has failed and that Riyadh is trying to impose its terms on Yemen. One spokesperson has said any Saudi strike on Sanaa would bring retaliation in Riyadh, and a military source has warned airlines off Saudi airspace. Meanwhile the US is building up forces across Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar even as talk of a near-final Iran deal continues. Contingency planning for a wider regional conflict is running ahead of diplomacy, and that gap, not any single drone, is what a market this calm would be slow to price.
