The Closer

The session's twin shock, an escalating Strait of Hormuz standoff and a deepening credit scare around AI infrastructure financing, didn't let up into the close. Energy strength from the geopolitical premium couldn't offset the ongoing slide in technology and high-growth names, and the stress in AI-linked credit kept building as the day wore on.
CoreWeave bore the brunt of it, falling 12% on the day to bring its weekly decline to 25%, extending the multi-day slide that had already pushed its five-year credit default swaps to a record and its 2031 bonds into the low-80-cent range.
Capital markets activity stayed busy despite the backdrop. IonQ priced an underwritten offering of 20.5 million shares, 29.5 million pre-funded warrants and 100 million Series C warrants through J.P. Morgan Securities at a combined $40.00 public price, with the warrants carrying a $69.46 strike and a seven-year term; the deal closed the same day.
Live Nation Entertainment closed its private offering of $730.0 million of 7.125% senior notes due 2032 and €600.0 million of 6.125% senior notes due 2032, with proceeds earmarked to redeem its 6.500% senior secured notes due 2027. The company also amended its credit facilities, pushing revolver and term loan maturities out to October 2031 and lifting the multicurrency revolver to $1,450 million.
Cipher Digital priced $850.0 million of zero-coupon convertible senior notes due 2032 at a roughly $15.31 conversion price, with a 13-day option for another $150 million, alongside $89.7 million in capped call transactions and an exchange of about $165.9 million of its 1.75% 2030 convertibles for roughly 40.7 million shares.
Elsewhere, AT&T agreed to sell its wireless business in Mexico effective October 13, a move that comes with the retirement of Global Marketing Officer and International head Lori Lee at year-end as her role is eliminated. NioCorp Developments reported third-quarter GAAP EPS of $0.03.
Taken together, the day's financing activity, from IonQ's equity raise to Live Nation's and Cipher Digital's debt deals, shows capital markets still functioning even as credit stress concentrates specifically around AI infrastructure names like CoreWeave, a split that traders will be watching closely heading into next week.
