The Closer
The session's selloff, a semiconductor and AI-growth unwind triggered by Intel's warning on an accelerating PC correction that pulled the Nasdaq 100 into correction territory, gave way to a mixed after-hours tape and a slate of corporate and dividend announcements that had little to do with the day's macro stress.
Some of the session's hardest-hit names found after-hours relief. AMD, which fell 12.2% during the day, is up 2.3% late. Coherent, a double-digit decliner in the session, gained 2.4% after hours. Elsewhere, Estée Lauder Companies rose 2.6%, while CBRE Group slipped 2.6%. Among ETFs, the WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund and the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ex China ETF each added 2.5%, with the Dimensional International Small Cap Value ETF up 2.1% and the iShares Emerging Markets Dividend ETF up 2.2%.
Corporate activity continued well past the close. Norwegian Cruise Line's NCL Corporation arranged up to roughly $2.5bn in financing for each of two new vessels, insured by Italy's SACE and due for delivery in 2034 and 2036. Procter & Gamble closed a $4bn four-tranche notes offering. HF Sinclair agreed to repurchase 2.35 million shares from REH Advisors at $109.37 each, about $257m, its twenty-third such deal, which will push REH's stake below the 5% threshold tied to board representation. Arch Capital's Arch Insurance unit agreed to acquire Premier Dealer Holding Corp., parent of an auto finance and insurance provider, with no price disclosed.
Earnings and guidance updates added to the mix. FTI Consulting beat on EPS but lowered GAAP guidance while raising its adjusted outlook, with its CEO attributing the quarter's strength to clients turning to the firm amid global disruption. Hawthorn Bancshares reported adjusted Q3 EPS of $1.23. Dividend declarations came from Equity LifeStyle Properties, which also announced a CEO transition with Patrick Waite succeeding Marguerite Nader effective January 1, and from Western Alliance Bancorporation, on both its common and preferred shares.
Outside markets, Zelensky welcomed US approval of a Patriot interceptor purchase and pressed for faster delivery, while Trump said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will invest $40bn in Florida mortgages. Shares of CAPR and IMTM moved sharply in after-hours trading, up 6.9% and down 5.9% respectively, with no stated cause.
